UGame J5 4K UHD Monitor Review | Enhance Productivity with 17.3-Inch 60Hz Display

Introduction to the Review

Portable monitors are great, but should you actually drop a lot of cash on one? What's up everybody, Corey with Freaky Tech Reviews here, and today reviewing the 17-inch 4K travel gaming monitor from UPERFECT. There's a lot of great things about this monitor, but it comes at a hefty price tag. So let's see if it's actually worth considering or not.

Specifications and Build Quality

This monitor is specifically 17.3 inches in size and features a 4K ultra high definition screen with a resolution of 3840 by 2160, meaning that you are getting a very crisp 4K quality image that is compacted onto a smaller screen, so it looks really nice. The physical measurements are 15.9 inches long by 10.1 inches wide with a thickness of less than half an inch, and it weighs just 2.5 pounds, making it big but light for travel. It has an aspect ratio of 16:9 with a viewing angle of 178 degrees, which allows you to see it very well from side viewing. The IPS panel provides vibrant colors, and it has a 60Hz refresh rate that is great for most needs, including casual gaming.

Performance and Features

When we say casual gaming, we mean it because it does have a 25-millisecond response time, which means that it won't really be a competitive option for fast-paced multiplayer environments, but it does support HDR and FreeSync for enhanced visuals. The screen provides a 1500:1 contrast ratio, which we found fantastic as the image quality was vivid with deep blacks, and it has up to 400 nits of brightness, which we found to be plenty bright for my needs. It covers 100% of the Adobe color gamut, meaning that it can display the full range of colors specified by the Adobe RGB color space with up to 16.7 million colors.

Design and Accessories

The body of the monitor features a 75 by 75-millimeter VESA mount that you can buy adapters for to get 100 by 100 millimeters, and it has built-in speakers for decent sound quality when you need it. In the box, you receive the UPERFECT monitor with an included rubber case, the power cable, and an adapter for DisplayPort to HDMI. I also received a secondary rubber case as we were going for a black and white setup to match my headset. Inputs on the monitor include two USB-C ports for audio and video input, HDMI, a micro USB OTG port for connecting a USB drive or peripherals, and a 3.5-millimeter audio jack.

User Experience

When we first opened the box, the UPERFECT monitor actually reminded me a lot of that portable monitor that we reviewed in my recent Timo video. The style of packaging and aesthetics of the material were extremely similar, but once we really started to check it out up close and test the screen quality, we found that this product is the one that cheaper companies tried to knock off because it's actually really good. we do think that the plastic body leaves something to be desired as it didn't feel like the best quality, but the cover is nice, and the overall presentation is solid.

Travel and Versatility

Let's talk about the bigger focus of this monitor: using it for travel as a second screen for your work setup or as a main screen for gaming on the road. This monitor is absolutely excellent. We love the look of gaming on it because the games look so beautiful, but the resolution is also good enough that small text as a second monitor is no problem, so it does well as a work monitor as well. We've talked in the past about setting up a travel gaming setup for things like the ROG Ally or Steam Deck, and this UPERFECT monitor is an excellent example of how good that can actually be if you're willing to invest the money into it.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

What we think people will get hung up on the most is the price tag, and that's completely fair as $570 really is quite up there for a secondary monitor to travel with, especially when you look across the market and see tons of travel screens for much cheaper. We use the word "cheaper" very specifically because you do get what you pay for. A monitor like this not only gives you some of the best screen quality you can get for portable viewing, but also a longer lifespan of the product. Just the screen quality and resolution alone are amazing, which is going to up the price tag, as true 4K with this depth of contrast and color ratios is not going to be cheap to bring with you. If you want the best quality gaming while traveling, this UPERFECT monitor is a great choice. UPERFECT also offers an array of other portable monitors to choose from that range in price, quality, and portability. After seeing the quality of this monitor, we would say that UPERFECT as a company is worth checking out if you're on the market for a new travel monitor.
