UPERFECT UPLAYS C2 Gaming Monitor reviewed by Steam Deck Guy

Intro

I'm going to be taking a look at the UPERFECT C2 portable gaming monitor. UPERFECT Kindly sent this over to me to take a look at. So, let's find out if this is the perfect companion for the steamdeck. So, let's get this out of the box.

What is inside

So first of all, we have a power adapter. This will vary based on where you are in the world. I'm in the UK. So this is the UK adapter. We also have cables included. So we have a H D M I two H D M I mini and then we have a USB C to USB C and a second USB C to USB C. One of those is for the power and then we have the monitor itself which has the cover already attached.

UPERFECT closer look

Closer Look

So, let's get this out of the packaging and take a closer look. We also have the manual which gives basic instructions and it also shows how you connect it to various devices. So, taking a closer look, this reminds me of the Apple flip cases except that this is a hard plastic, it actually feels very secure. And as you can see here, as you open it up, the monitor itself is actually attached by a magnet to the case. So let's take a look at the inputs. On the left hand side, we have a micro HDMI input and then we have two USB-C inputs, one for power and one for your device. And then the left stereo speaker, there's nothing along the top or bottom. And then on the right side, we have a headphone jack which will be used for headphones or speakers. We have the menu wheel which you can also click in to enter and then the device selector. So let's show you how the stand works. It's pretty simple. There are two fixed positions. The first position is probably what I'll use most of all. And then you can fold it back so it makes it extra secure. And as you can see here, this isn't going anywhere. It's very secure and this is the lower position. As you can see, again, it doesn't wobble, it's very secure. And then when you're done, you can simply fold it up and away, you go and that's gonna protect your monitor from any damage.

Steam Deck Connection

So, let's get to the good stuff. So, I'm interested to see how this works with the steam deck. With the included USB C cable. We can connect the steam deck straight to the monitor without even supplying power as you can see, it does flicker on and off, but then you'll get a stable image and as first impressions go, the image quality looks very good.

Menu

So, let's take a look at the menu. If you scroll the world down, then you'll be able to adjust the volume. This does include stereo speakers and it does go pretty loud. But if you're using this with the steam deck, I would just recommend using the steam deck stereo speakers, which are much better in my opinion. But these are perfectly serviceable and will do the job for most people. If you scroll the wheel upwards, that will take you to the brightness setting where you can quickly adjust the brightness to your liking. I've actually set mine to 100% which looks very good. If you push the wheel inwards, that will take you to the full menu. So we have black level adjustments contrast, we can change the eco modes, we can change aspect ratios. This is a 16 by 10 ratio, which is the same as a steam deck. We can also adjust the color temperature and colors, the onscreen display settings. We can enable HDR mode and we can also in just settings such as enabling free sync.

Gaming

So, let's take a look at how this performs. So, playing mirror's edge, this looks absolutely fantastic. As I said, I'm running with 100% brightness, but the colors just really pop and this looks really good. So, I'm really impressed with the quality of this and even the sound is pretty decent. This game runs at 60 frames per second and it feels very smooth on this display. Whilst the monitor does support up to 100 and 20 Hertz refresh rate. I don't think you'll be hitting that on the steam deck, but at 60 frames, this looks very smooth and I'm impressed with the results.

Desktop Mode

So, let's take a quick look at desktop mode. As you can see here, we have the resolution as 25 60 by 1600 which is the CCM 10 ratio and 120 Hertz refresh rate. And again, the quality looks really good. I haven't tested this extensively.

Connectivity

As first impressions go, I'm impressed as this is a USB C portable monitor, you can actually connect a number of devices. I actually tried this out with my MacBook pro and as you can see here, the screen isn't as good as the built in iPad retina screen, but it's perfectly serviceable and this will come in handy when multitasking and I just need an extra screen. I also tried out Samsung Dex and again, that works really well. All you need to do is connect the USB C cable to your Samsung phone and then you get the full Samsung Dex experience. Next, I wanted to try out the Nintendo switch.

Nintendo Switch

Now you can connect this via USB C directly but I wanted to try out the H D M I cable. So using the Nintendo Switch doc, I've connected via H D M I and this looks fantastic. It's probably not coming across on the video, but the colors are really vibrant and it plays really smooth. This is a very fast game and it runs really well on this monitor. So that's it for my quick look at the, you play C two gaming monitor.

Thank you for reading this review and we'll see you on the next one.
