UPERFECT Ugame K118 Gaming Monitor Review: Small Wonder

Features and Quality

The possibility and flexibility of owning a quality portable gaming monitor is something I’ve dreamed of for many, many years. Yes, there were portal gaming monitors and carrying cases clear back in the Xbox 360 days but for the most part, they were low res, grainy, low refresh rates, and had horrible contrast ratios. For the last several years there have been more and more solid options in this space but with the UPERFECT UGAME K118, we are reaching sublime levels of all the features I mentioned before.

Let’s talk about build quality and features. With a metal base but a very slim, portable form factor, this is near perfect. It screams quality and looks nice as well. It’s also very easy to set up, just plug and play. We had no issues connecting to any HDMI source whether it was console or PC based. Onto quality of the screen: Let’s just say this is one gorgeous display. Packed with a 2K (2560x1600) resolution and 144-z refresh rates, the sky’s the limit with what you can pump out to this bad boy. Overall, the image is clear, clean, and crisp, and motion clarity is fantastic. While the 1000:1 contrast ratio won’t break any records on black levels, this 144hz gaming monitor still sports a beautiful image that is a long way from portable monitor quality just a few years ago.

Feedback

I don’t have a lot of complaints about the K118 besides an oversaturated HDR mode. It’s not a dealbreaker but drops the score a bit. Also, it would be nice to have a 16:9 ratio (2560x1440) resolution version of the monitor as 16:10 is a bit odd choice as most gaming and movie ratios are designed around 16:9. Note that this isn’t a UPERFECT only issue. I have been complaining about aspect ratios for years now. We’ve gone from 4:3 to 16:10 to 16:9 and back and forth for years now on all sorts of media and gaming content. Industry peeps: Pick a ratio and stick with it!Lastly, I’ve love to see a version based on a high contrast ratio panel.

Conclusion

In the end, the K118 is one of the best portable gaming monitors I’ve ever tested. It’s easy to setup, easy to use, and regardless of your source content, you get a quality image at a size that isn’t too big or too small. Whether you are playing PC, Steam Deck, console games, working or watching movies, this is absolutely a small wonder for a very fair price.
